Jennifer and Mike Simmons owners , Java Planet Organic Coffee Roasters, Inc.

We’d like to introduce ourselves and our family business, Java Planet Organic Coffee Roasters, situated in Tampa, Florida. Our journey began in 2009, and since then, we’ve been dedicated to providing exceptional coffee experiences.

In 1989, Mike and I crossed paths in Tampa while working in Information Technology. Our connection deepened, leading to our marriage in 1991. Our family expanded to include three children, Jeremy, Alex, and Tiffany (distinct from the Tiffany you’ll meet shortly), along with three grandchildren, Lillian, Tyler, and Archer.

Our shared love for coffee ignited early in our relationship, prompting us to explore various brands and roasts. Eventually, we delved into home roasting with green beans, a passion that evolved as Mike crafted batches for friends and family. The growing demand prompted a decision in 2008 to turn our coffee passion into a business.

Driven by our commitment to a healthy body, a healthy planet, and fair compensation for coffee growers, we thoroughly researched conventional and organic coffee production methods. Discovering the heavy chemical treatment of conventional coffee, we were motivated to create a cleaner, more sustainable alternative.

Organic coffee, free from synthetic fertilizers and chemicals, became our focus. We learned that it not only results in a cleaner bean but also benefits the environment and offers higher antioxidant content. Further exploration led us to the conclusion that Arabica beans, grown at higher elevations, deliver the best taste, with an aromatic and flavorful cup of coffee.

Opting for quality, we committed to roasting and selling only 100% organic Arabica coffee beans. Our dedication extended to achieving certifications for Fair Trade, Bird Friendly, and/or Rain Forest Alliance. This thorough approach ensures that our coffee is not only delicious but also ethically sourced.
